Western Legends Stories, an overview

Kolossal Games, the company behing the hit open world boardgame Western Legends, has recently started unveiling more details about their upcoming project, called Western Legends Stories. 


WS: STories is none other than the next major entry in the Western Legends saga—a standalone, competitive campaign game that’s not compatible with the original Western Legends and its expansions. Designed by Hervé Lemaitre, the game will allow players to explorate the 1800th wild west, and live various adventures through its immersive setting. While it takes many concepts and core rules from Western Legends (yes, poker cards are back!), Stories is a completely different game, featuring a host of new mechanics and a stronger emphasis on narration.

You're no longer a famous figure of the Wild West. This time, you start as an anonymous character, and you'll build your own legend through your glorious (or infamous) deeds, as your decisions have a lasting impact on your environment.

In this vast setting, you'll encounter a diverse cast of characters, wildlife, and locations. Develop your skills as you see fit, gather items, and fight your way out of dangerous situations. You'll always have multiple choices, and your decisions will have a lasting impact on your character and the world around them, even though Western Legends: Stories isn't a legacy game.



The entire campaign is replayable, as each scenario, depending on your choices, has various events and narrative developments that may or may not occur. Even the campaign’s conclusion can vary. In short, two playthroughs of the same scenario will feel vastly different!

Does that mean that Western Legends: Stories loses the freedom that characterized its predecessor? Heck no! Its narrative is shaped around your choices, not the other way around. And who knows, there might be a way to play in full sandbox mode...
